New Year's Eve 2013

The morning of the last day of 2013 was spent in Alt St JoAnn's. We had a not so leisurely breakfast at our Gasthaus , because we had to figure out what time the bus came to that small town and how to pay for it and it was quite the adventure!

We said goodbye to our rooms...

Goodbye to our hosts, Joseph and his mother and we were off down the hill to the bus station. The bus took us down to a small town where he waited for us to get our train tickets and pay for the bus ticket and then we got back on the bus and we got on the train to take us to Zurich. We made it in time to catch our train to Paris which was a 4 hour ride, Very comfortable ride, we played some Farkle, took some naps and read and looked out the window as Switzerland went by...

We got into Paris about 5:30pm and then had to make our way to the hotel. It was a long walk just because we do not know the subway system at first. That is the biggest problem with public transportation, you don't know it till you get there. It takes about 1 -2 hours to get to our hotel because we have to ask for help in deciding where to take the subway, when and where to get off. You have to be careful in deciding which way the subway is going and go to the correct track! Not always easy the first time :( But we made it to the hotel, checked in, kicked back for an hour!

This was our view...

We were in the Latin Quarter which was pretty central!

We went across the street for dinner, a Kabob place which was very very good!
Bud and I had chicken on a stick and red rice and a salad and french fries and a coke!!!

Then we all took the subway to the Eiffel Tower for New Year's Eve!!! It was kind of wet at first but then it stopped raining! It was a very beautiful night. To see the Eiffel Tower Sparkle with all the people and the police was such an adventure!!!

It was a sight to see! People ooohing and ahhing and laughing and just standing there watching the tower and after midnight everyone starting cheering and saying Bonne annee, Happy New Year. That went on till we left and got back to the hotel at 2:30am! It took us awhile to walk to a subway and then the subways were full of people. The transit system was free all New Year's Eve till noon on New Year's Day! That saved us all some money! On the one train. there was a group of about twenty singing and just having a good old time! We had a very special evening! Happy New Year Everyone!!!
