Flight 93 Memorial-Shanksville

I didn't realize that Flight 93 went down in Western Pennsylvania until Bud called and talked about it. Thomas suggested we go to the memorial on Saturday 9/15. So we slept in a little bit and we were on the road by 9:30am. Elyssa couldn't go because she had a class :(. Thomas, Misty, Jackson, McKenna and I stopped for breakfast an hour out and then loaded up and made our way to the memorial. It was a cool breezy day and a somber one at that. The memorial was a granite wall built where the flight pattern was and when it came down and where the plane skidded to a stop. Each person's name was on a section of the wall. Family or friends or just anyone could put personal items in memory of lost ones below their names on the ground.

This last one got to me, made me tear up! I had walked up to the end of the memorial, which is the beginning actually, and Jackson came up to me and asked if I saw the comments on the wall that was not outlined. I did not so he took me to the name of Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas and right next to her name was "and unborn child". That was so hard to know and to read. I cannot imagine the bravery and the fear that these people felt as some of them got up to fight back, to hopefully gain control of the plane, but if not, to stop the terrorists from flying the plane into another building. God Bless the families of the people that died not only on Flight 93 but from all that died on 9/11. The phrase "Let's Roll" brings a sense of pride and heroism!

  1. We went there before the memorial was completed. It's awe inspiring! Thanks for showing that last picture. What a story!
