Richmond Virginia The White House of The Confederacy

After we visited the State Capitol Building, we walked two blocks up and two blocks over to The White House of the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis, as the President of the Confederacy, lived there. Once in February of 1864, Jefferson Davis’ wife, Varina, saw an African-Amercian being beaten in the street. He was 5 years old and his name was Jim Limber. They “adopted” him and brought him to the White House of the Confederacy to live with them. The Jefferson’s had a child, a little boy, named Joseph. In April of the same year, 1864, Joseph fell off the back porch and died. Jim Limber lived with them at the White House, until they had to evacuate in the next year April 1865.

The house below are in the neighborhood of this White House!
