Bud had his Scottish Ale!
Here is my chicken Pot Pie!
Bud's lasagna was Yummy! Then we went back to our hotel and settle in for the night an oh what a night!
After such a beautiful day spent walking the historic streets of Edinburgh, the sun shining and the bright blue sky above our heads making our pictures look even more beautiful, disappeared in the night! The rain started poring and the wind was really kicking! All night long! When we woke up at at 6am it was blowing even harder. We went down to breakfast late because my watch stopped and I didn't notice. So I finally noticed at 8:40am. We wanted to get an early start! We had to drive 150 miles today! While eating breakfast we heard on the TV that the train stations were closed in Scotland. Seems that the glass roofs in Glasgow and Edinburgh were damaged so they closed all the train stations just in case and trees were blowing over on the tracks. Also the news showed two jets trying to land and one did straighten out before landing but the other one had to touch and fly back up again! It was kinda scary out there! Glad we had the car so we could leave. After breakfast we brought our luggage down from our room. We asked for directions south and Freddie, the owner, told us turn left, turn left, then right at the roundabout and follow A7. So we did and it was a wonderful way to get out of the city center fast, but I think he wanted us on the 702 at some point because that would have taken us on the M8 which is like a freeway, except every so often there are roundabouts instead of exits to make life a little tougher and stressful! So we took the long and scenic route. Rats and Mice!!! We have about 150 miles to go, and in the states for the most part that isn't bad but like Bud said he allowed and hour to get lost and find our way back! Lol Though not funny when your lost!
It was such a beautiful day for a drive once the wind slowed down and the rain stayed in Spain mainly on the plain! As you can see in some of the pictures we did have clearing and it stopped raining and the blue sky showed its pretty blue face for us. The winds calmed down so Bud and I could open our car doors at the same time! We were afraid our doors would literally blow off so we held them with two hands. We finally made it on the M8 and in no time we were in Windermere.in the Lake District, where Beatrice Potter wrote the Peter Rabbit Books. I couldn't visit Hill Top where she lived because it was closed for the winter!
We had to stop at a hotel in Windermere to ask for directions to our B&B and he told us, we were only a couple of blocks from it! We took our stuff up to our room and then walked into Windermere for dinner! I saw the name Lighthouse Restaurant and I couldn't eat anywhere else!
Pretty Christmas Tree!
I had Bangers and Mash
And then we walked around the town! Most shops were closed :( Isn't the Christmas Tree Beautiful?
This is Windermere!
Wow! What an adventurous day! It just looks so cold, even in the photos. I don't know how you guys hop back in that car and drive those distances each day... but look at all you've seen I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteI Know there are many miles but it was only 150 miles, but if we stay on the small roads it takes forever to get somewhere because of the little small towns with tons of roundabouts where one can get lost very easily! Today we went 160 miles and it took us 2 1/2 hours cause we stayed on the Motorway (freeway) and we didn't get lost!!! YEAH!!
