Jerusalem-Second Day-He Lives!
So the Jewish leaders and Pharisees said "That is the end of Jesus." But, just to be sure, they send soldiers to guard the tomb. They hauled a big stone in front of the door to the tomb so that no one could get in... or out! Jesus' friends and mother were so exceedingly sad and forlorn. How could it end like this? Well it didn't! Just before sunrise on the third day, God sent an earthquake and an angel from heaven. When the guards saw the angel they fell down with fright. The angel moved the stone away and sat down on top of it and waited. At the first of dawn, Mary Magdalene and other women headed for the tomb to wash Jesus' body. When they reached the tomb, they noticed it was wide open. They peered inside and saw that Jesus was gone! The angel said to them "Don't be scared." "What are you doing here?" he asked. "Jesus isn't dead anymore!" he said. "He is alive again!" he said. And the women were happy and ran off to tell people the good news. Mary stayed behind to see if she could find out more. She heard someone in the garden and thought it must be a gardner, she would question him. She asked him where Jesus was and the man said "Mary" and she knew He was Jesus. Mary fell to the ground crying and she wanted to touch Him, but He said not now, but later. He told her to go tell the others that I am alive! So Jesus went to see His disciples who were hiding in an upstairs room. He walked right through the walls and Thomas said it is a ghost, but it wasn't. Jesus told Thomas to touch His side so Thomas would believe it was Jesus. Jesus had lunch with them. Jesus told them that He would be going home to be with His Father. There is a place for you. I'll get it ready, you know the way. When at last they reached the top of a hill in Jerusalem, Jesus turned to them and said, "Go everywhere and tell everyone the happy new!" "Tell them I love then very much and that I died for them and now everyone can come home to God." "Death is not the end of you." "You can live forever with your Father in heaven because I have rescued the whole world. God loves His children. And then Jesus rose up into the sky, higher and higher until they could see Him no more.
