Jerusalem-Second Day-Passion

After getting Jesus ready to be crucified, they made Him carry His cross on the Via Dolorosa (Way of Suffering) teh route to Golgotha, the place of crucifixion. A man named Simon of Cyrene helped Jesus carry His cross when He couldn't. These pictures are of the Via Dolorosa now days. There are shops all along the way. You have to try and picture nothing there because back in the day, there was nothing there. No buildings, no nothing.

Then they nailed Him to the cross on Golgotha, a hill outside of Jerusalem. The soldiers and the people shouted " You say you cane to rescue us, but you can't even rescue yourself!" "If you were really the Son of God, you could just climb down off that cross!" they shouted. And of course they were right, Jesus could have, but He didn't. He stayed. You see, they didn't understand. It wasn't the nails that kept Jesus there. It was love. Then Jesus committed His mother to John's care and the sky became dark during midday. It lasted three hours. Jesus cried out, "My God-why have you forsaken me?" The earth trembled, the mountains shook and the rocks broke into two. The full force of God's anger at sin was coming down-all upon Jesus, His Son. Jesus cried out "It is finished" and He died. Jesus had rescued the whole world. He gave His life for ours. The pictures inside the Church of the Holy Seplechure are placed where the cross was placed at Golgotha.
